Do documentary films attract us ?

Documentary film is a broad category of moving pictures intended to document some aspect of reality. "Documentary" has been described as a "filmmaking practice, a cinematic tradition, and mode of audience reception" that is continually evolving and is without clear boundaries.
Documentary practise is the complex process of creating documentary projects. It refers to what people do with media devices, content, form, and production strategies in order to address the creative, ethical, and conceptual problems and choices that arise as they make documentaries.

Many people think viewing a documentary/short film is boring, though it is hardly of 4 to 9 mins or at the least one & half hours.People have the mentality that documentary are mainly of art forms; esp of agriculture or backward-class or village related ones. But this is not the case. Some of the well-known documentaries are of Satyajit Ray,Arun Chadha,Nikhil Suneja, etc.

I've recently seen a documentary on "Penguins-A love story". It was one of the amazing film I've ever seen. At the beginning I was quite reluctant on viewing this film, but being a film on penguins i thought would be good.
It is a short film on how the penguins in the Antartica move ahead covering 120 kms, find their own partners, make love with each other, just like human beings.Their expression of love, their affection for each other is just worth seeing. The photography is awesome with lovely background music. One feels like experiencing those special moments.
The females become pregnant & they shift their eggs to their partner's womb by coming close. After this, the females have to go to gather food for their yet to be born babies.
For a few months, the males take care of egg coming across winds & snow, which s'times even breaks the egg. If by chance the egg breaks, the females weep loudly & the pair part their ways forever. The females move towards the sea to obtain food, in this process they are mostly eaten by sea-fishes.The under-water shoots are very cleverly taken..the deep water, sea-fishes,the grasses and the fungus inside.
Slowly comes the time when a small baby comes out of the egg with the males shielding them. The baby tries to peep their head from their father's womb.Superb picturization. The baby is so sweet with its small body trying to come out fully. Then the mother comes back & offers food to her baby. Flocks of penguins are gathered at one place and that moves the viewers completely. In this way the older penguins pass away and the babies of 2-3 years learn to live their own living.
Voice-over given by Amitabh Bachchan & the complete shooting has been done live at Antartica about different stages of penguins' lives. It's the direction of Liyuk Jack and produced by Yevaj Daredeo.
Hence Penguins-A love story is a heart-throbbing film to view. Seeing this video, you would too fall in love with the documentary films.

Thus documentary films too have a nice message to convey, just like the penguins' story of how they live their living together in a large flock.
